In the Dying World, the Inquisition of the Church of the Two-Headed Basilisks holds sway over matters of faith - except where it doesn't. In the hidden corners of the continent, unorthodox beliefs still flourish despite the Inquisitors' heavy hand, challenging the philosophies of the Church and its narrow interpretation of holy text.

• The Fane of the Defiant, who deny the inevitability of the Nameless Scriptures and seek to reshape the fate of the world through belief
• The Heralds of the Merciful Egress, who usher souls out of the world ahead of the prophesied apocalypse, whether willing or not
• The Sect of the Entreaty, who dare to bargain with Verhu for a future where the Calendar of Nechrubel is unfulfilled
• The Cult of the Sleeping God, who claim to have found a dreaming deity in the depths of Bergen Chrypt whose power may be greater than the Basilisks'
